Region 1 ODP 1996 Boys travel to Spain and South of France

Region 1 1996 Boys travelled to Basque Country arriving in San Sebastian, Spain to participate in an Invitational Tournaments in South of France. They reached the Finale in a tight match against Spanish First Division club Real Zaragoza.

The boys arrived in San Sebastian, Spain to prepare for the tournament in South of France. They were hosted by Real Sociedad 1st Division club and had the opportunity to use their modern Training complex “Zubieta XXI”, attented a Real Sociedad Pro match, an Open gate training session and played a friendly match against their Youth.A second friendly matched was played with feeder club Antiguoko CE (Club to Michael Arteta and Xavi Alsonso’s club until age 18).

The team was then transferred to France to play the Annual event of Artix held on Pascual weekend.  After losing in the first group game Region I fought back to win the group and move to the Quarter finals where they shut out Aviron Bayonnais from France setting up a semi-final with CFF Paris.  Region I earned their 4th straight victory 2-1 to set up the final of this prestigious tournament vs Real Zaragoza of Spain.  A 5th win in a row was not in the books as the tight contest ended in a 2-1 defeat. Despite this the Americans impressed and had Junior Flores (VA) named as MVP of the tournament.
